Lutheran is Baby-Friendly!

Baby-Friendly USA has recognized Lutheran Medical Center as a designated Baby-Friendly birth facility.

Based on the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, this prestigious international award recognizes birth facilities that offer breast-feeding mothers the information, confidence and skills needed to successfully initiate and continue breast-feeding their babies.

We’re proud to be a team of committed providers who have met the guidelines and the highest standards to provide the best possible environment for breast-feeding,” says Marcia Teague, Manager of Lutheran’s Mom/Baby Unit. “We know that both moms and babies benefit when babies are breast-fed.

Baby-Friendly USA is a worldwide initiative to improve the health and lives of women and children by improving breast-feeding rates. The initiative is a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Mothers who give birth at Baby-Friendly hospitals have higher rates of exclusive breast-feeding at initiation and at 6 months.
